November November

This past week has gone by really fast and now it is Friday again and it is the 2nd of November – craziness – a year since I resigned from Novotel and started at Club Med! A lot has happened in the last twelve months. So I taught primary year one and two on Monday, very cute…and then played softball with the kiddies and got a home run yay! It is really starting to cool down by 5 or so in the afternoon now. Tuesday I taught year five and six. Year five was very unruly and noisy and year six very quiet…hard to believe they will be in first year high school next year. Thursday we had local and regional board of education visitors to junior high school so everything was all tidy and clean, and all the teachers were in suits instead of their usual sports attire…the music teacher was ironing the P.E teacher’s pants in the staffroom before the visitors arrived!
Yes anyway last weekend was the Kumamoto International Friendship festival which was fun…I went up on Saturday afternoon and stopped off at Yatsushiro city on the way which is just on the coast (in the middle of all the mountains!) and has a port, a nice castle and a big shopping centre. Then I managed to navigate my way into Kumamoto city by car which was a bit tricky. I went to the Picasso exhibition which is currently on loan from the Ludwig Cologne Museum. It was very popular and showed a good range of paintings and sculptures. It had quite a good selection of Picasso’s work including the original lino cuts and lithographs as well as photographs of Picasso during his last 10 or so year at various events, at home or with friends. Picasso was so influenced by other contemporary artists; it’s very interesting to se so much of his work spanning so many years side by side. I also went to the modern art gallery which has a very cool library where you can sit and read at comfortable couches surrounded by bookshelves and a baby grand piano.

La semaine dernière a passé très vite et nous sommes déjà vendredi a nouveau et il est le 2 novembre ! C’est fou ça fait un an depuis que j’ai démissionné du Novotel et que j’avais commencé au Club Med…tellement de choses se sont passées depuis un an. Ben cette semaine j’ai enseignes des enfants de 5 et 6 ans en primaires, très mignons ! Et aussi des élèves de 11 et 12 ans en primaire, difficile de croire que certains d’entre eux vont atterrir en sixième au lycée l’année prochaine ! Jeudi c’était la visite du bureau d’éducation régional alors tout était propre et beau, tous les profs étaient habille en costume au lieu de leur tenue de sport habituel...la prof de musique était même en train de repasser le pantalon du prof d’éducation physique juste avant l’arrivée des invités.
Le week-end dernier, je suis allée a Kumamoto, la plus grade ville de près de chez moi – a deux heures et un peu de route…c’était la premier fois que j’ai navigué la route en voiture alors j’étais fière du fait que je ne me suis pas trompée !! Je suis allée au musée ou il y a actuellement une exposition de Picasso temporaire venue du musée Ludwig Cologne. Il y avait beaucoup de gens et l’exposition elle-même était intéressante car il y avait une bonne sélection des œuvres de Picasso a travers des années – des peintures ainsi que des sculptures, et on voyait bien l’influence des ses pairs artistes au fil des décennies. Il y avait aussi une série de photographes prises lors des dix dernières années de la vie de Picasso, de lui, de sa famille, au travail, avec des amis. Je suis aussi allée à la gallérie d’art moderne qui avait une superbe bibliothèque gratuite ou l’on pouvait s’asseoir et lire autant qu’on voulait, c’était sympa. Et puis dimanche j’ai assisté au Festival de l’Amitié Internationale toute la journée avant de rentre chez moi dans mon petit village.
