Golden Week in May is one of the only times of the year when Japanese people take holidays. I was fortunate enough to visit the islands of Miyako, Ikema, Kurima and Irabu with two Japanese friends. We had great sunny weather, went snorkeling, drove around the islands, went on a sunset cruise, discovered the local cuisine and enjoyed the more laid back island lifestyle which is different from mainland Japan.
